[COMPLEX] Kodak Black Announces Scholarship in Honor of Parkland Victim, Visits School on Third Anniversary of Shooting.

Kodak Black has been the recent recipient of a lot of good fortune. Now the rapper is paying it forward in the form of educational opportunities.

On Sunday, Kodak visited Marjory Stoneman Douglas High, which was the site of a deadly mass shooting exactly three years prior. The rapper joined community members and local officials as they honored the 17 victims on the tragedy’s third anniversary.

Black was there on behalf of Meadow Pollack. Kodak’s attorney Bradford Cohen told TMZ his client was Pollack’s favorite rapper. The recently incarcerated artist became aware of this and decided to establish a scholarship in her honor. The $100,000 scholarship fund will be offered to students attending Southeastern University Law School (where Pollack’s brother Hunter is enrolled) to study justice reform.

Kodak explained his intentions during the ceremony and was met with a warm reception from the crow. Later, he and Huner lit a candle together in remembrance of Meadow.

“The situation is bigger than Meadow Pollack. It’s about all the other kids. It’s about the whole school. It’s about all of Broward. And I want to help,” Black said in a video obtained by TMZ. “I just want to have a positive impact on this community.”

Since having his prison sentence commuted by former President Donald Trump, Kodak has been focused on his philanthropic ventures. This includes paying the tuition for the children of FBI agents killed in Florida.

XXL - Kodak Black Threatens to Sue Walmart for Selling Knockoff $40 Chain

XXL - Kodak Black Threatens to Sue Walmart for Selling Knockoff $40 Chain

Kodak Black has threatened legal action against Walmart.

According to a report from TMZ on Wednesday (June 24), the national retail franchise is selling a replica version of the Florida rapper's Sniper Gang chain for $40. Sniper Gang is the record label founded by Kodak. The neckpiece is listed as "Hip-Hop Fashion Icy Bling Sniper Gang Pendant w/ 11mm 20" White Gold Tone Half Iced Cuban Chain." Although the chain is available via a third-party vendor, the item is being sold on Walmart's website and Kodak is threatening to sue.

Bradford Cohen, the attorney for the 23-year-old rapper, told XXL this morning, "The willful blindness of Walmart in regards to allowing 3rd party vendors selling on their platform, will come to an end. We cannot allow a company that knows fake items are being sold on their site to profit from those sales or pretend they don't know about it. We will hold them legally responsible if the items are not removed in 48 hours."

Meanwhile, Sniper Gang affiliate, Jackboy, called out Walmart via Twitter. "Y’all Better Hope Y’all Can’t Get Sued Because If So Sniper Gang About To Have Are Own Walmart SniperMart Coming Soon," he wrote.

It appears the item has been taken down from the website, but it could still be available for purchase in stores.

Kodak and his protegé Jackboy aren't the first rappers to put Walmart on blast for selling a knockoff version of their jewelry. Lil Baby recently said the discount department store had him "fucced up" for selling a silver-plated imitation of his 4 Pockets Full chain on their website for $25.

XXL - Judge Rules Error Was Made in Kodak Black’s Federal Firearms Case

XXL - Judge Rules Error Was Made in Kodak Black’s Federal Firearms Case

Kodak Black could be making headway to be removed from the maximum security prison where he is currently serving time for his federal firearms case.

In court documents obtained by XXL, a judge signed a motion on Monday (June 8) agreeing that the Florida native's criminal history was exaggerated when he was sentenced back in 2019. The initial order, which was filed by Kodak's attorney, Bradford Cohen, last month, states that the rapper pleaded guilty "to a two-count indictment charging him with making a false statement in connection with the acquisition or attempted acquisition of a firearm."

During the rapper's 2019 sentencing, the court agreed that Kodak's history of drug use was "overly stated" and considered his criminal history a category two, despite the Presentence Investigation (PSI) report noting that Kodak's history is a category three.

The original motion, which was to correct a clerical error, also states that despite the court deducting a two-point enhancement, lowering Kodak's categorization, the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) disregarded the information disclosed in court and took action based on the PSI report. Thus, designating the 2016 XXL Freshman to serve his sentence at USP Big Sandy maximum security prison in Kentucky.

Cohen spoke with XXL and explained the new development in further detail. "The reason why we filed a Rule 46—Motion to Correct Clerical Error—is because in the PSI, which is a Presentence Investigation report, it listed his prior criminal history as a category level three, which obviously is more serious than a one, two, three is worse," the attorney says, noting that the categories can go up to level six. "But, they used a three in the PSI. The judge agreed with me at the time of sentencing that the level three overstates his criminal history because some of his priors were for like possession of under 20 grams of marijuana."

The categories in which offenders are placed in are based on a scoring system. In Kodak's case, his drug offenses put him in a category that allowed the BOP to put him in a maximum security facility.

Kodak Black's attorney, however, is advocating for the rapper to be put in a lower level prison, so that he will be able to attend a drug program, which is not offered at the maximum security prison. "I argued essentially that those prior criminal history is pushing him into a higher criminal category, which makes it worse for him, right?," Cohen continues. "But at the same token, the criminal cases that they're using to score him are possessions of marijuana that he's got a withhold and court costs on."

The attorney went on to say that as a result of the judge correcting the initial order and agreeing that the rapper's criminal history was overstated, Cohen can now use this documentation and take it to the prison where Kodak is being held to classify him into a lower designated prison. Cohen filed a motion last month to have his client removed from the facility.

Kodak was arrested for federal firearms charges last May ahead of his scheduled performance at Rolling Loud festival. Last Friday (June 5), his attorney confirmed to XXL that the multiple federal firearms charges against him, which carried a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison, had been dismissed.

Kodak Black's current release date is schedule for Oct. 7, 2022, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
